Twittering Too Much will Get you Unfollowed

I mentioned this on Twitter the other day, but found it to be a little bit of a pet peeve of mine so wanted to share it here as well. (View the video below for online demo of twitter stream crowded with one person – if you are reading this via email you will need to go to the original post to watch the video)

Just a word of warning for Twitter users. Don’t tweet too much. Tweeting too much too fast will fill up your followers Twitter stream and you might find yourself getting unfollowed. This is especially true if your posts on Twitter are automated.

How much twittering is too much? This is difficult to answer because if you don’t tweet often enough you will find that your following is not growing.

A few rules of thumb in regard to Tweeting too much.
1. Say something of value. Don’t just spit out mindless content that I could find anywhere on the web.
2. Be a real person. Stats are fine, but if all you posts are stats and data on twitter, I begin to wonder is there a personality behind those stats?

Those are just a few of my thoughts is you don’t agree drop a comment or share your thoughts about tweeting too much.

2 Ways to Improve the Customer Experience

Your website is your store. Even if you don’t sell anything online. It is the place where people make decisions about whether they should work with you or not. How can you improve your customer’s experience on your website.

Below is a quick video about my experience “shopping online” recently. Check it out as I give two tips for ways that you could improve the customer experience on your website.

My two Tips:

1. Add video and as much information as you can about your product or service

2. Add live chat to your website to engage your customers with their questions.

If you have tips or questions, leave a comment below.

Use Your Call to Action Delicately

Many website I see don’t have any call to action at all. Big Mistake! Some website which do have a call to action do not think about what is the next logical step for their visitors. Is the next step to call? or Is it to read more? Some times there is an interim step that your visitors need to take before they call you or fill out your contact form. Lead your visitors by the hand to the next step and you will get more conversions.

Ian Watt Talks about Twitter ROI

I had the chance to talk with Ian Watt about a recent comment he made on Twitter about having $40K in commissions come from Twitter. I wanted to clarify and ask for more details. Watch the 2 minute video below to hear a story of how Twitter is working for Ian.

Stephen Jagger Presentation to the Board of Trade

Steve Jagger spoke to the Vancouver Board of Trade about Search Engine Optimization and gave tips on how to get more out of your website and web presence. This is a one minute clip from that presentation.
There were 90+ business owners and marketing managers present listening to Steve’s presentation.

One of the big take away’s from the presentation was.. “Don’t worry too much about what you don’t know. Take what you know and get busy applying what you know. Then as you begin to see improvement start adding in some new pieces to your strategy.”

Kye Grace speaks about Vblog Success

I get a lot of people asking me.. Rodney, does this stuff work? I know it’s easy and I know you can help we setup adwords or add a video blog, but will I get leads from it? Will I make more money because I make videos? A fair question. Rather than listening to me rant about how it has worked for Reachd, I asked Kye Grace, a Vancouver realtor to share how he got two great leads from video blogging. Watch the 2.5 minute video below

Using Adwords to Test a Domain Name

You Don’t Need a Website You Need a CMS

CMS stands for Content Management Systems. I don’t know how many business owners have come to our training proud of their website and then leave without the ability to implement anything they have learned because they do not have the ability to make changes on their website. A content management system (CMS) gives you control and allows you to make changes.

Below are a couple of links you could use to explore content management systems if this concept is still a bit new to you.

The content management system I use.
An open source content management system you could use. There are lots of these.
Blogging platform also open source that can be used as a content management system

If you have questions or if you are not sure what is right for you or your website redesign. Drop me a line on Twitter or comment here and I’ll try to help out.

Use Video To Promote “Hot” Local Topics

Above is a video about a Vancouver realtor who sent me a twitter message about some of the videos that he uploaded about the Onni Blow Out sale on their condos. He uploaded the videos on Jan 15 and on Jan 16th he has 3 top spots on Google for the keyword “onni liquidation sale” and one spot for “onni sale” This is an example of how video and social media can get you high ranks in google quickly. Kye, also told me that he did not “attempt to game the search engines just researched 5 video sites and uploaded the video.”
The key take away from this is to keep creating more and more and more content. Don’t stop pumping out the content – Google is content hungry!
