Some changes at Reachd we wanted to share:

  3. We are now posting all upcoming course dates so that students can book themselves into a class well in advance.

  5. We are hoping to collect testimonials from you past students, and will happily provide an inbound link (to your site) using the keywords of your choice on our Testimonials page! Email us with some kind words, and instructions about the link, and we’ll update our website. It’s a win-win for us both :) .

Below is a video with a few tips to help you improve the time on site on your website or blog

The three tips mentioned in the video are

1. Use online video to engage web visitors
2. Use a search box to help visitors find what they are looking for
3. Use related links or related articles to encourage people to dig deeper into your site.

Web Analytics Series: Improving Your Bounce Rate

Defining bounce rate is important, but now we want to turn our attention to trying to improve the bounce rate on our website.

Here is a quick video that I made to discuss some of the important points in improving your bounce rate. (Again if you are checking this out via email, you will need to navigate to the blog to watch the video.)

A few questions consider regarding bounce rate:

Which of the referral sources are leading to the highest bounce rate? If it is the search engines, then you might have a Title Tag and Meta Description problem. It could be that you are promising one thing with your Title and Description but when visitors click through to your site it fails to deliver

Is there one referral site that has a really high bounce rate? If so, it could mean that advertising on that site is not a good idea. While a site may be sending you traffic, it is NOT sending you customers if the bounce rate is high.

Is there a page that has a bounce rate much higher than other similar pages on your site? This was what happened in the video above. I had a page on my site with a very high bounce rate compared to other pages. Upon looking at that particiular page, I noticed that there was a call to action that was leading people away from my website.

A few other miscellanous tips regarding bounce rate

  • Make sure all the pictures load
  • Make sure Videos and flash load quickly on the page.
  • Ensure that your site displays properly in all popular web browsers

Lesson learned from this blog post: Keep your call to action clear but make sure that you are not leading people away from your site with that strong call to action.

Web Analytics Series: What is Bounce Rate?

A week ago I wrote a post about the importance of setting up web analytics on your website. The easiest way to do this is to use Google Analytics.

Over the next couple of days, I’d like to dive into a few of the most important stats for you to look at on your analytics and give you some tips for how you can improve some of those stats.

Today, we will look at the ever popular often misunderstood – bounce rate: Bounce rate is shown in your analytics as a percentage. That number represents the percentage of people that entered on one page of your site and did not navigate to any other page on your website. Those visitors bounced.

A bounce could be described like this…

  1. A visitor clicks on your ad or your website in the search engine results
  2. A visitor views your landing page or webpage (this counts as a visit)
  3. A visitor hits the back button on their browser

Below is a video that talks about the some of the important stats to consider regarding your bounce rate. (If you are receiving this blog post via email you will need to visit the blog online to watch the video)

In the next post we will talk about steps to reducing your bounce rate.
