Update: Reachd Internet Marketing & Social Media Classes in Vancouver, BC

Some changes at Reachd we wanted to share:

1. We’ve reorganized the 2-day course into a different order of topics so we can add more information and slow the pace down!
   Here’s what future students will encounter:
   Day One: Google Adwords + Blogging + Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
   Day Two: Social Media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter) + Plan Implementation
2. We are now offering a complimentary one-on-one 60-minute session with the instructor (me!) within 3 months of completion of the course. Value: $150+. To take advantage, you must register (and pay) 10 or more days before the course you will be attending.
3. We are now posting all upcoming course dates so that students can book themselves into a class well in advance.
   Class size is limited to 8 students for a more intimate and personalized learning experience.
   Upcoming dates are: (9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm)
   Wednesday, Feb 15th & Thursday Feb 16th
   Wednesday, March 28th & Thursday March 29th

5. We are hoping to collect testimonials from you past students, and will happily provide an inbound link (to your site) using the keywords of your choice on our Testimonials page! Twitter “Tweets” in Google Results

Think Twitter is a waste of time? Google is now indexing Twitter within their results. Below is a quick example of a search I did in Google for the term “vancouver“. Notice the Twitter results right within Google.

Don’t Forget to Edit Your Meta Description

We had someone come to our class that did not have a unique meta description on the pages of her website. It is important to have a unique meta description on every page of your website.

It is easy to forget about your meta description because it is not something that you see on your website, but it is something that the search engines index and it is also something that searchers may see on the search engine results page.

The video above talks about the importance of your meta description on your website. Take a minute to watch the video and see how searchers might interact with your meta description.

Your assignment:
1. Go to your website
2. Right click on the homepage
3. Look in the code for the word “meta description”
4. If you don’t have anything posted, figure out how to get something
5. If you have a meta description that is not descriptive, figure out how to change it.
6. If you do have a meta description go to another page on your site and check to see that the meta description is present and unique for that page.

What is an XML Sitemap & Why should you care?

An XML sitemap is a feed to the search engine of where all the pages on your website reside. It includes information like, the address of your webpages, the date the pages were changed, and the importance of the pages related to other pages on your site. An XML sitemap is the best way for Google to index and crawl your site deeply. Every website owner that is committed to search engine optimization should have an XML sitemap on their website.

If you’d like to have a sitemap generated for you, you can go here.

My recommendation would be to have your website on a content management system. Make sure that your content management system includes the ability to generate and XML sitemap for you. If the content management system cannot generate a sitemap, I would be suspicious about the system’s capability of producing a search engine friendly website.

We use Ubertor to host our website. It is designed for Real Estate Agents, but is flexible enough for small – medium size businesses and non-profits. If you are using WordPress for your website, be sure that you use this wordpress plugin to generate an XML sitemap.
