3 Blogging Tips to Improve Your Blog Content

Yesterday was our first blogging course in Wichita KS. During the course I was reminded that the key to a great blog is the content. Blog hosting, Blog themes, widgets, and plug-ins mean nothing if the content is not engaging or worthwhile. In the video above, I listed three tips for writing blog content. The blog tips are listed below as well.

1. Write Your Content for Your readers – It is important in each post to keep your audience in mind. One mistake that I often see people make is  creating blog posts that are solely targeted at their industry. It is okay to write an industry focused blog posts, in fact great industry posts can help raise your profile, but primarily you should be focused on your prospective clients or customers. Write or record posts that will help your customers and it will help build your business.

2. Post to your blog regularly – That does not mean that you should post everyday, but if a prospective client visits your blog and the last post was from 90 days ago, what might the visitor to your blog think about you or your business? Build a blogging routine and post to your blog at least once per week.

3. Write Compelling and Keyword Rich blog titles – Compelling titles will entice people to read your blog. Keyword rich titles will help google understand a bit more about what that specific blog post is about.

Post to your blog regularly and post content that is beneficial to your visitor and you will see your business grow.

May Blogging Course In Downtown Vancouver

We wrapped up our blogging course yesterday in downtown Vancouver. There were about 10 people in attendance (sorry to those of you that did not get included in the pic.) As I was thinking about the course and considering this recap there were two important themes that came out of our 3 hours together.

1. Importance of considering carefully why as a business you should blog

2. How to pick and choose your battles when it comes to web marketing.

First from yesterday, Why Blog? Most of the people in the room had no blog and very little experience blogging. A few had launched a blog but are still quite new to the blogging scene. As we discussed why blog this was the answer that stuck with most of the people in the course. Blog in order to educate and show yourself to be the expert in your niche. With this idea it is important to consider what is your niche. The smaller the niche, the more focused the niche, the easier it is to rise to the top as the expert. Consider carefully your niche and your audience when you are launching your blog.

Secondly, several of the people in our class were finishing up their bundle of 5 web marketing courses so we took a few minutes to take stock of all that they have learned so far. Our courses are 3 hours long, but we cover a lot of ground and a variety of topics – search engine optimization, adwords, blogging and social media, plus online video. Taking all the information in and knowing what to do with it can be a challenge. My advice from yesterday – (besides sign up for Reachd Elite :) – focus on one form of driving traffic and one form of converting that traffic. If Adwords floats your boat then give attention to Adwords. If you think that Social media is for you, take 2 months and give social media a try.

Currently I am working on a web marketing road map to help answer some of the questions that people might have after they have completed our bundle of training. Let me know Reachd students if you have specific questions that you would like to see addressed in the “Web Marketing Road Map”

Thanks to everyone that attended the training. Look forward to reading your blogs in the future.

Use Keyword Research to Get Blogging Ideas

Below is a video of me using the free Google Keyword tool to look for ideas to blog about
(watch the video below. If you are viewing this via email you will need to visit the blog to see the video)

Keeping fresh content on your blog is an important part of having a healthy and successful blog. But it is easy to run out of ideas or maybe your aren’t sure if your idea for a post is a good one.

Rather than pulling ideas out of thin air, you could use the google keyword tool to see what people are searching for related to your particular product or service.

Here are the steps that I would follow if I were to use keyword research to generate blogging ideas

1. Go to Google Keyword Tool

2. Enter a broad keyword in the box on that page

3. Sort the keywords by “Average search volume” by clicking on that particular column

4. Look for topics or searches with no less than 100 / month. It is difficult to decide what a perfect minimum number is because it varies by industry.

After I’ve got my topic or keyword phrase I would write a quick blog post about it.

In my video demonstration, I chose the topic “how to reply with twitter” So coming up soon, I will be writing a blog post on that particular topic.

What do you do to generate blog topics or ideas? Drop your comments below and let me know.
